Asakusa me how I know

I woke up at about 4 am, over-hungry because I had peanut butter M&Ms for dinner. The rest of the family woke up over the next 3 hours, and I looked around for a place that serves breakfast at 8 am on a Saturday.

Apparently Asakusa is a normal place with appropriate brunch times and we were left with only a handful of options, which were then limited by my gluten free status.

We ended up at Denny's. I hadn't expected to do it so soon, but I do love trying out familiar restaurants in unfamiliar places, so it was fun to see how different and how much the same it was.

The kids all got melon soda with breakfast, I got a rice & chicken porridge bowl. Overall it was great and at $40 for the whole family, I can't complain.

We headed to 7-11 to pick up snacks, where I grabbed some chips. We ate those chips on the way to the Don Quijote variety shop. It was very much like a four-floor Daiso store. And the amount of overwhelming, huge piles of stuff with people milling about was pretty overwhelming. Daiso and I have always been pretty hit or miss, just because I don't like spending too much money on stuff that won't last. I'd rather buy good-quality things. It was incredible to see the amount of variety of stuff, but we actually managed to walk out without buying anything. This is partially because we kept cautioning with children that they would have to carry everything that they bought for the next three weeks.

After a little bit of wandering around Kappabashi, the kitchen district, we headed back to the hotel for a little nap.

20 minutes is enough nap for anyone, and we headed out to a local supermarket, Life 馃崁.

We grabbed some onigiri, some grapes, a few ramune drinks, and then headed to go and grab some late lunch by way of the Sens艒-ji Temple. Henry spent 楼100 to get a fortune and got "best fortune" which I hope is what follows us for the rest of our trip.

We wandered down the river and eventually found our way to a gluten-free tempura restaurant, where Elizabeth managed to get us seats even though they are reservation only.

The dinner was exceptional, we got a gluten-free beer and a five sake pairing. We ended up getting tempura bowls which have an entire process, which was exceptionally delicious. Highly recommended.

After dinner, we walked back through the sensoji Temple and saw all of the little shops that lined the way towards the temple. It was all tourist trappy, little knick-knacks, umbrellas, shoes, etc.

We made it back home, put on some YouTube, and everybody except Elizabeth passed the heck out by 8:30 p.m.. She took took a soak in our onsen style tub. I assume that she passed out afterward, but I was insensate at the time.

Pretty good for a day where we were all jet lagged and walked more than 15,000 steps.
