A Day Off in Shinjuku

After the last 2 weeks of go go go, we had nothing planned for the day in our new Airbnb or in Shinjuku.

We decided to take it easy, partially because of the heat, and partially because we were a little tired, sore, and blistered.

We had read about a local group of rockabilly dancers who had been performing in a local park for the last 30 years. With my love of rockabilly music and everyone's love of dancing, we headed to the park and got shave ice, waiting for the show to begin.

It was as advertised, and the dancers did a great job, despite the 93° heat (feels like 95°--thanks, Google).

After, we walked through the very large park, enjoying the shade, and also marveling at what felt like a full blown forest in the middle of Tokyo.

We eventually made it home, lounged around for the afternoon, and headed out to grab gluten free ramen from a local food court. The kids got their own table and navigated the Japanese restaurant like champs.

The place was mobbed because it was Sunday, but the food was good, and we split the party, Eli doing some clothes shopping and me and the boys heading to the supermarket and home. We bought fixings to make pancakes in the morning.

Now, we're watching YouTube science videos and relaxing in the air conditioning, and doing laundry.

Tomorrow we have some simple plans, in crossing my fingers for a cooler day, currently advertised at 80 degrees--much more tolerable.
