Something new!
After 10 years as a software engineering manager. I've decided to set down my very busy calendar and instead focus on being a builder of things that matter at The Path, a startup focusing on AI Therapy.
I've recently watched the industry change in ways that I couldn't possibly imagine. I had thought that my journey as an engineer would never go deeper or broader, but I was wrong.
I heard about The Path from my friend Joel who was interviewing. The idea that LLMs might be good enough to provide something like therapy sounded like science fiction. The more I thought about it, the more I thought it was possible. To find out it had been done well was definitely a surprise.
Now that I've been working at the company for a little more than a month, both the work and the product have exceeded my expectations. I'm building software better than I ever have, faster than I ever have, and with people who are helping me grow everyday.
More important is the product. People close to me have started using it. Family members who haven't been to a therapist since the '80s are getting support for the first time in years. My wife has been talking to me about new ideas for how to parent our children. I find recommendations for things to think about and how to be happier.
We always talk about how the job we do might change the world for the better. And how building something that truly matters is part of what we're looking for. The fact that our company has a button on our survey that says, “life-changing," and we mean it, is truly amazing.
Most everyone can benefit from therapy. Consider trying it out.
