Viking a Chance

Viking a Chance

A full day in Dublin, and we started it in horned helmets. The Viking Splash Tour runs around the city in a bright yellow amphibious truck, and the price of admission is that you wear the helmet and, when instructed, roar at pedestrians. I roared.

The truck did its land portion past the Georgian doors around Merrion Square and out to Grand Canal Dock, at which point it drove directly into the water and became a boat, a transition that never once stopped being funny.

The evening was for wandering — lit-up streets, shop windows worth pressing your nose against.

We spent a while at a jeweller's, Neil Conway, looking at things we had absolutely no business looking at. (Hold that thought.)

A couple of pints later we strolled home past the Guinness sign glowing over the road, which around here doubles as both a landmark and a directional beacon.

Tomorrow: the source of that glow.
