Oh My God, They Kilkenny'd

Oh My God, They Kilkenny'd

Kilkenny in daylight turned out to be a warren of medieval lanes with names like the Butter Slip, several of them narrow enough to touch both walls at once.

Down by the River Nore, with Kilkenny Castle sitting across the water, Elizabeth did a handstand on the wall. This will become a theme.

We took the brewery tour, which came with high-vis vests and a walk through St Francis Abbey, tucked right inside the brewery grounds like a saint keeping one eye on the operation.

It ended, sensibly, at the Smithwick's Experience, where the ale is poured in the same place it's brewed. There is a legend here involving a mouse, which I will not spoil.

We wandered the old town a while longer, red ivy climbing the stone walls, and called it a very good day.

Tomorrow: castles, and a great deal of blarney.
