Auckland Day 2

One of my mother's oldest and dearest friends happens to live in Auckland, so it would be remiss to visit halfway around the world and not pay a visit to her and her husband. We flew in on a Saturday morning, so it worked out well to visit on Sunday for a little lunch at their house.

My mother's friends were excellent hosts, keeping the kids happily entertained and giving us lots of good information about Auckland and New Zealand in general. They called Auckland the land of 4 seasons in a single day, and boy do I think they were right. We've only been here two days, and we've felt freezing cold, hot sun, driving rain, and calm breezes. While we were talking and eating delicious local pizza, we got some more of that drenching rain mentioned earlier.

Having no success with finding gumboots, but effectively eating up the requisite 15 minutes, we wandered down to the light walk, a local tourist attraction where a freeway offramp has been converted into a bike and pedestrian overpass and art installation. It was a nice way to spend an afternoon and we burned off a good chunk of the pizza we ate while running around like idiots chasing the kids, I'm sure.

We walked back past Myers Park and Aotea Square towards our hotel. We bid our goodbyes, and retired for the evening, watching a little Disney Kids TV before brushing our teeth and hitting the hay. It was a very busy day and we all passed out before 9PM.
